ARGHHH!

Kinda frustrated right now....

- I don't want another fill because my portion size seems right on track and I seem to be full long enough. I don't want to be too aggressive with fills because I don't want any complications.

- I am going to the gym at least 4 times a week (trying for 5 times most weeks)

- I am craving Chocolate in a major way so I get into funks where I raid my sister's room (she lives with us) and find her chocolate stash. Or (gasp) purchase a small chocolate to satisfy my "fix" I swear... I am an addict.

- I am eating between meals just because I "feel" like I want it and I justify in my mind that it won't hurt to have a few.

- AND DUH, the scale is barely, and I mean barely, moving. My personal goal of losing these last 2 lbs so I can be at 80lbs lost is feeling impossible.

Here's what I am going to do about it:

- JOURNAL!!!! I have never been good at this but if write down everything I put in my mouth I'll be more aware of my calorie intake for the day.

- Eat on schedule. If it's not time to eat then I don't get to eat. (plus, this will tell me if I need to get an adjustment)

7-8 - Breakfast
11:30-12:30 - Lunch
3pm - possible 100 cal snack
5:30-6:30 - Dinner

GO TO BED, without eating any further snacks.

- Continue going to the Gym.

------------------------------------------------------

I have been banded for 9 months and have slowly started to get more and more complacent. I am on the verge of getting to that weight that I've never seen in my adult life. I need to up my game and make this happen. I have 52 lbs to go until goal...

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed!

On a side note:
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!
It's been a wonderful 9 years!

SABOTAGE!!!

Me and my oldest

Not much going on over here... just preparing for the man in the red suit to make his appearance. The kids can hardly wait! O.K. I can hardly wait... he, he, he.

But I swear, if any more of my "friends" bring me goodies. I am marking you off my friends list, FOR GOOD! Can we yell "SABOTAGE"!!!

I know, I know, I should really have more will power but I am 4 lbs away from 80 lbs lost and I don't see that scale moving very quickly! My three meals a day are normal bandster size but my snacking in between is well... completely out of control. I just find myself walking by the goodies and grabbing a handful (or two).

I tell the kids to eat all they want when ever the goodies arrive... because I try to quickly move it to the... (DON'T TELL THEM! They have been known to go to great lengths to retrieve some things)... the garbage can. But dang it, no sooner than I get it moved off the counter, some other "friend" brings some goodies by.

Last year, I enjoyed all the goodies and even did my own sharing of goodies but I am a changed women! A true friend would save you, from yourself! : )

Anyways... I keep telling myself that we only have a week left of goody sharing. I will do my best until then.

Good luck to you, too!

Tale of two coats....

A picture of last year's coat and this years coat.

THOUGHT:
Not only do "bigger" people take up more space, but their "larger" coats take up even more space...

It doesn't look like much in the picture but I have noticed that my new coat takes up a lot less space then my old coat.

Example: Sitting next to my husband at a booth table at a restaurant. -- Not only is there more room in the booth for both our booty's... but my coat takes up less space, and wads up into a tight little bundle next to me.

Which is really cool... I never realized how much room my "larger" coat & I were actually taking up.

Things are becoming SO roomy.

Just my random thought for the day.

Oh, yeah... check me out...

The best darn dog....

Isn't she beautiful!

We had to have our dog, Cleo, put down yesterday. One of the hardest days of my life.

My heart hurts so bad. She has been with me for over 11 years. There is an empty space in our home today. My little shadow is missing.

Not sure how long it is going to take before I don't cry everyday over her not being here. She was really a part of our little family.

Just wanted to share my love for her, with you. She was my little pal.

FDA Panel to Consider Lap Band Expansion

Hello there!

Still here but out of the blog world for the moment. Having some small family crisis that are needing tending. : (

I am doing great... weight loss has slowed but I am still losing. I am hoping to be at 80lbs lost here in the next few weeks. Thanksgiving was tough... didn't gain any weight but didn't lose anything either for the week before and after. (dang those pies) I seem to be back on track and feeling pretty good.

Life is good...

70 lbs

I did it! Whoot! Whoot! I had a personal goal to make it to 70 lbs before Thanksgiving. I have a little more time left before my Thanksgiving Vacation and maybe if I am lucky I can see the scale drop a little further.

So, my weight loss is apparent now to almost anyone who knew me before. I've had some interesting conversations... here is how some of them go...

"WOW! You are looking great!" "Thank you" "What have you been doing?" "Oh, I had Lap-Band Surgery" "Oh......"

LOL! I know I could say... "Oh, I've been eating less and working out" (which is the whole truth) but I feel like if they ask "HOW" I want to give credit where it's due. It cracks me up because I don't think they are expecting to hear "I've had Lap Band Surgery" It almost always leaves them at a loss for words.

RANDOM THOUGHT:
I had a friend who a few years back lost a lot of weight and when I asked "how did you do it" she said working out & eating less. I felt great for her and so sad for me because dang it... I just couldn't make it happen. Ended up, she told me later, that she was taking a diet drug... I felt a bit betrayed at the time. That is probably why I am so open to giving the credit to my Lap-Band.

I know not everyone feels this way but it works for me. Well enough random thoughts for the moment. HAPPY 70lbs Lost TO ME!!!

(still hoping to get my 60 lb pic posted) sigh.

Update

Yep it's been forever.

Sorry about that... here's what's up.

Doing good. I have lost 67lbs as of today. 65lbs was my half way to goal mark. VERY EXCITING!

It hasn't all come of easily... I have had some rough moments. The band has made this weight loss possible (THANK YOU, BAND) but now that my band has a good fill, I am working harder than ever on the "Heather Issues". Things like emotional eating, bored eating, special occasion eating which are all very present in my life. Maybe not as present as they use to be but there all the same.

When I focus on eating on schedule, working out, watching calories and limit my treats... I see great success on the scale. So that is where I am at... trying more than ever to make positive choices. Enjoying my smaller clothes and finding amazement in what I see in the mirror. Life is good. AND BUSY! I still have my 60 lb pictures to post. Hopefully I'll have those up soon. Happy Banding!

LOVIN LIFE!

  • Today, a random lady at the gym... who I have seen before, but never talked to, came up to me and said "you are looking great"
  • The gray pants that I bought small and didn't fit until a few months ago are WAY to baggy on me now... I decided after a friend said something about them looking baggy to put them away.
  • The other night I said to my husband... maybe this skirt will fit me. (the skirt that I bought 4 years hoping I could eventually get into) and guess what... it just zipped right on!
  • I have this box of clothes that I have kept for 7 1/2 years... (my pre pregnancy clothes from before I had ANY children. ) I have always kept it because I always had grand plans to lose weight... well guess what, they FIT! The box is up and out of the basement. I am wearing pants RIGHT NOW from that box. I am officially wearing my pre pregnancy clothes. LOL! Just a few years behind...
This is getting fun... I am officially 64lbs down and I AM FINALLY noticing the difference. The first 50 lbs all came from the top of my body... finally it is coming off the biggest part of my body. MY BUTT! WOOT WOOT!

What size am I?

It dawned on me that I have no idea what size pantyhose I wear... I've lost enough weight that simple everyday answers will have to be re-looked at.

Here's how it happened... I went to grab some pantyhose... I was out!!! And in a pickle cause I hadn't shaved. : ) So I reached for the back of my drawer where I had put a pair of smaller pantyhose years ago (even after a move they we placed in the back of the drawer... just think of me as an eternal optimist).

AND those suckers slid right on!!!!

It reminded me, that I am going to have to start looking at sizes on the back of stuff to determine what size I am. Weird and cool all at the same time. : )

HAPPY DANCE!

5.25 cc - Another Fill

Went in for another fill today... 10/05/10. I wasn't sure I needed a fill because I am so close to my sweet spot but I wanted to "piggy back" off my last fill appt two weeks ago. (you get a free fill within 2 weeks of your "paid" fill)

Call me cheap.. but I wanted to save $75.00. : )

Went in... and they added .5cc to my 5cc filled band. (.5cc is the most they will add per appt at this stage) I drank some water, it went down pretty good. The Dr took out the fill needle and I was about to leave the room... when I could suddenly tell that the liquid was not moving. Saliva started filling my mouth and I realized that .5cc was going to be to much. I felt bad but I asked the Dr to take out .25cc. Back on the table I went and she got out another needle. I felt guilty making her do it again but I am really not looking for an emergency unfill later on tonight...

It feels pretty good now. I am hoping this fill will take me through the holidays. I guess we will have to see.

Liquids for the next 24 hours. And then I'll see how I am doing. I have a good feeling. :)

60 lbs... GONE!

I had to really get my "game" on to get these last few lbs off. It was a good reminder to me, that I REALLY need to watch what I put in my mouth.

Been dealing alot lately with the emotional part of why I have been over weight.

Found myself saying things like:

* I deserve to eat this
* I am tired... and I need this for energy
* I am sad... I need this to be happy
* I am emotionally drained... I need this to feel better
* O'well, I just won't lose any weight today
* This is a special occasion....

Ah... you see where I am going with this? I had to put my big girl panties on and decide, that enough was enough.

I also went and bought a book called The Beck Diet Solution and I am going through the, step by step process to "think like a thin person." (I'll keep you posted on how that goes)

I am six months into this whole band thing and me and Mrs. Band have worked out a lot of our kinks. Now it's time for me to work out the "kinks" in my head.

I'll be posting pics soon... : )

I can taste it now, versus inhaling it

I just love a good quote,

"I can taste it now, versus inhaling it"
- Tamster

AMEN TO THAT! That is the truth!

Went to Golden Corral tonight... put a few bites of each of my favorite foods on my plate and then sat and enjoyed my ONE plate of food. THE BONUS - is that when you show your Lap-Band Card you get in for the 12 year old price... It cost a total of $10.08 for a 2 yr old, 6 yr old, and me! WHAT A DEAL!

AND IT TASTED SO GOOD! (It was shrimp night!) : )

Random Thoughts...

This picture cracks me up... it's the ultimate in "being a kid" sitting on the counter, making cookies, flour everywhere... grin. Oh the joys of being a kid!!

My 2 year old son, Explorer, is on the left and my nephew who currently lives with us is on the right... we will just call him Toothless, for the time being. (He looks like a vampire biting that spoon, poor toothless kid...) Cracks me up!

Any Who.... news in the health department. I am perfectly fine and healthy according to all tests. Something is still messed up but I am hoping that adding in a little hormone through a small daily pill will even out my "girly flows" and get me to feeling better. Something is amiss even if I am perfectly healthy. Dang, band... I think it boils down to this... losing all this weight has triggered some hormonal swing that is trying to balance it's self out. I'll get to that good place soon.

OH! and my foot feels grand!! Life is good! No more excuses.... he, he, he.

Lap-Band - a weight loss tool

Just a thought about all those Lap-Band naysayers... you know the ones, who made you feel bad about getting banded. I love it!!

"Sure you can put a nail through a board using your bare hands, but it's
pretty darn hard.
If someone hands you a hammer, would they call you lazy for using it?
NO! they'd call you smart.

It would seem downright weird to struggle to put a nail through the board
knowing there's a hammer right there than can help you accomplish the job
more efficiently.

But when you apply that same logic to the band, people have an entirely
different opinion. " --posted by Candy

YEAH for Bonnie!!!

But don't worry... I will do this again sometime in October. Check back and (again, using my deep announcing voice) "Maybe, YOU'LL be our next lucky winner"

Oh the excitement!!! Now, we will be returning, to the regular "humdrum" bandster talk. ; )

GIVEAWAY - Professionally Designed Blog Header

I have been a Graphic Designer for over 13 years... I am taking a break from picking up very many freelance jobs these days because I am a mommy 1st and foremost. So I have a little extra time and some extra creative vibes that need an outlet. Thought I'd share the love and open up a give away here are the rules:

Blog Header GIVEAWAY!

It's simple! Just "comment" to this post. Leave me some way to contact you... your blog or your email or your phone number... just kidding... DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER! That would be crazy. Anyways.... leave a comment and next Monday, Sept. 13th, I will use a random number generator to pick the winner.

Share the love... and don't worry about the competition. The more interest I have for this giveaway, the more my desire will be to offer it again. (Nothing like offering something and having nobody interested, what a bummer!)

Your blog does not have to be Lap Band related but I hold the right to refuse to use my talents to design for a blog that I find offensive. (you know what I mean... I like sass but come on there are some "unmentionables" out there) You may need to send me images that you want to use for your header or be at the mercy of my creative insanity.

When I refer to a "blog header" I am talking about the image that introduces your blog (see my chunky/skinny ladies at the top of my blog?)

hmmmm... I guess that's it. If I think of anything else, I'll edit this post later on.

Oh, so exciting!!!

I am challenging YOU!

Back from our Labor Day Festivities... good times all around. But I probably ate to many roasted marshmallows. lol.

Stayed two nights up in the Unita Mountains with our family and two very dear friends. It was FABULOUS.

Of course, it was FREAKIN COLD at night and my poor toes suffered but survived. It was 24 degrees on Sunday morning. A little two cold for this fair weather camper. buuurrrrrrr.....

Decided to start a 2 week cleanse! STARTING TODAY, I am taking away my two favorite vices for the next two weeks... no CHIPS or CHOCOLATE CANDY.
AHHHHHH...... it's going to be a challenge that's for sure!

Wanna join me? What are your no-no's? Are YOU up for a little challenge??

If so, post below, give me your start date and let's see how we feel about it after two weeks.

hmpf...

Sometimes a simple word expresses the most.

I never did make it to the gym... but I have good reason, "Aunt Flo" ended up visiting again just 5 days after her last extended visit. Hormones are all jacked up again. : (

I was fatigued and it felt like I was walking through water. I couldn't do anything....

I decided enough was a enough and went to the Doctors. They drew some blood and I am waiting on the results. Aunt Flow has decided to take her leave again and now I am feeling better. Not perfect but I feel like I could resume my lifestyle. aka... cleaning house, gym, etc.

Tomorrow the family is heading for the Mountains for a little Labor Day weekend camping. Just glad that I feel up to it. I'll keep you posted on the lab results.

YAWN.....

All dressed and ready to go to the gym... BUT I am having a hard time getting motivated to leave the house. Would rather crawl back into bed...

wanna help? give me a little "mind nudge" and maybe I'll actually make it there.

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Whew....

It's been pretty crazy over here... all I want to do, is veg out and read a book. Won't be this week... maybe the following?

On a good note, my foot is feeling better. Not perfect but much improved. I'll take it!!

Been eating pretty good but I keep hunting down chocolate. Is there something wrong with me? I'm serious... I am an addict! If you have a secert to staying away pplleeeaaasse share it with me.

Haven't gained any weight (whew)... still losing. I did work out Mon-Fri last week, for at least 45min a day. It felt good to be back in the work out zone.

Let's see Mon & Tues - I did elliptical, Weds - I did full body weight trianing, Thurs - elliptical, Fri - full body weight training.

I would love to do a class but until my foot gets completely healed I am only doing low impact work outs. There is a spin class that I could try but I don't' know if my booty can handle the pain of sitting on a bike seat.

I think of it like this... putting 260 lbs on a 5 inch wide post up the rear = pain. Tell me it get's better for you thin folk?

Hmmmmm... maybe I'll sneak into the spinning room and give it a practice run before committing to a an actual class. Better yet, maybe a FEW practice runs just so I can callous that *cough* "lower area".

Well, hope you are all doing well. I made it through a Garage Sale today... can I just say... why do we do that to ourselves? Of course I ask that question after every garage sale I do... but then a few years go by and I get this crazy idea to do it again. Come to think of it, I do the same thing when it comes to having children. LOL!

Night my friends..... yawn.

Water? (Just drink 30 min before and wait 1 hr after eating...)

Study Shows Drinking Water Helps People Lose Weight and Keep the Pounds Off

By Bill Hendrick

Drinking water before each meal has been shown to help promote weight loss, according to a new study.

Brenda Davy, PhD, an associate professor of nutrition at Virginia Tech and senior author of a new study, says that drinking just two 8-ounce glasses of water before meals helps people melt pounds away.

The study is being presented at the 2010 National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston.

"We are presenting results of the first randomized controlled intervention trial demonstrating that increased water consumption is an effective weight loss strategy," Davy says in a news release. "We found in earlier studies that middle aged and older people who drank two cups of water right before eating a meal ate between 75 and 90 fewer calories during the meal."

She tells WebMD that many people substitute sweet-tasting calorie-containing beverages for water.

"If you look at research on beverage consumption trends, our average intake of sugar-sweetened beverages has increased dramatically in the past three or four decades," Davy tells WebMD in an email. "So, likely we are drinking other beverages in place of water."

Drinking Water and Weight Loss

Her study included 48 adults between age 55 and 75 who were divided into two groups.

One group drank two cups of water before meals and the other didn't. All
participants ate a low-calorie diet throughout the study.

After 12 weeks, water drinkers lost about 15.5 pounds, compared to non-water-drinking dieters, who lost only 11 pounds.

Davy tells WebMD that the study participants drank about 1.5 cups of water per day prior to joining in the study.

Not only were those who drank water before meals more successful after 12 weeks, but they also kept "the weight off for a full year after the weight loss study."

Even better, most water drinkers, followed for an additional 12 months, not only kept weight off but "even lost another 1 to 2 pounds," she tells WebMD.

The message, she says, is clear: "People should drink more water and less sugary, high-calorie drinks."

How Water Aids Weight Loss

She points out that folklore and everyday experience both have suggested that water promotes weight loss, but little scientific information has been offered on the topic.

This doesn't mean that good old H2O is a magic potion, but that drinking water may help people shed pounds for the simple reason that it has no calories and fills up the stomach, making people less hungry.

Davy says water makes people feel fuller, inducing them to eat less food. She also offers good news for those who prefer diet sodas and other drinks with artificial sweeteners, saying such liquid refreshment fills people up, too. But she advises against drinking beverages made tasty with sugar and high fructose corn syrup, which are high in calories.

Davy says no one knows how much water people should drink daily, and that the federal Institute of Medicine says healthy people can let thirst be their guide.

However, she recommends that women drink about nine cups of fluids every day, including water and other beverages, and men about 13 cups.

It is possible, she adds, to drink too much water, which can lead to a rare but serious condition known as water intoxication.

The study was funded by the Institute for Public Health and Water Research,
a nonprofit, independent science and education organization.

This study was presented at a medical conference. The findings should be
considered preliminary as they have not yet undergone the "peer review"
process, in which outside experts scrutinize the data prior to publication
in a medical journal.

Note from me: I really find that if I am getting hungry and it's not "feeding time" then I can go and drink some water and for the most part keep myself from snacking.

Also, I often have to ask myself... am I hungry? or am I thirsty? So many times... I have eaten only to feel unsatisfied... and DYING of thirst.

Gotta love calorie free water! -H

50 lbs lost

Whew! It took me 2 months to lose the last 10lbs but I finally made it to 50 lbs lost since surgery!! 51 lbs to be exact...

It's been a tough two months.. for most of the time, I was sick with hormone issues, iron issues or dealing with my foot pain. I haven't worked out as usual and I have been eating a lot of comfort food. blah....

I have gotten my iron issues under control and I am no longer dizzy all the time. I just had another migraine on Sunday and my monthly "visits" are ALL out of wack so I my hormones are still completely messed up. Had another coritsone shot in my foot yesterday and my foot is feeling great today... so up and down, up and down. Isn't that what life is about. sigh.

The point is... I haven't gained any weight.

Having the lap-band is not a magic weight loss process but at least I am making positive forward weight loss progress even with a few "not so good" months.

I am re focused and ready for the next month... 60 lbs here I come!!!

My Favorite Things - Panda Express Entrees

I love Panda Express and pre band I ate my fair share of rice and sauce. ; (

I don't necessarily crave Panda Express but occasionally I like to treat myself (but I can't eat rice or noodles anymore)... I just found out that you can buy the entree from Panda Express by itself... I think it runs about $3.50, the little box fits in your hand.

It is the perfect size for a bandster meal. If you grab a "wok smart" entree they are all under 250 calories. It's not the most food for your buck but for a fun lunch out, I think it's great. (no noodles/no rice)

Enjoy!

P.S. Just watch out the Orange Chicken Entree it is 400 calories.... check out this link for more nutritional information:

- Go to Fill appointment... not sure I want a fill but I need to talk to someone about being sick and out of sorts.
- Don't get a fill but am told to up my iron to 3 x a day for a week and to take Claritin because my dizziness could be caused by allergies (water in the ears)
